2019 Real Estate Tax Rates

(Updated May 6, 2019)

While the city of Charlottesville’s tax rate has remained steady, Albemarle County’s just increased from 83.9 to 85.4 cents per $100 of assessed value. 

Our City and local Counties set their own tax rates and then you pay your taxes based on the assessed value of your property at these rates.

Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties all saw an increase in their real estate tax rates for 2019.

Below are the current rates: (Updated May 6, 2019)

Albemarle County – .854 (New for 2019)

Charlottesville City – .95 (No change from 2018)

Augusta County – currently undergoing a reassessment – last rate available was .63

Buckingham County – .55 (No change from 2018)

Fluvanna County – .925 (New for 2019)

Goochland County – .53 (New for 2019)

Greene County – .82 (New for 2019)

Harrisonburg City – .85 (No change from 2018; Rate may change for 2nd half)

Louisa County – .72 (New for 2019)

Madison County – .68 (2019 rate not announced yet)

Nelson County – .72 (New for 2019)

Orange County – .804 (No change from 2018)

Staunton City – 0.95 (just dropped from .97)

Waynesboro City – 0.90 (still deciding on new rate for 2019)

Note: these tax rates are all based on $100.00 of real estate assessment.

Example: If you own a home in Albemarle County that is assessed at $200,000 your taxes would be:

0.854 x 200,000/100 = $1,708.

At the previous rate of .839 it was $1,678 per year.
