All About Spring Creek

All About Spring Creek, Louisa Va

For many people, being able to live in a gated community that offers a well-rated 18-hole golf course just 20 minutes drive outside Charlottesville, and with easy access to Rt. 64 and points east and west, brings them to Spring Creek as the perfect choice.

Located just off Rt. 64 at Exit 136 – Zion Crossroads/Highway 15 – the entrance to Spring Creek is a mile up the road heading north on Rt. 15. Zion Crossroads used to be a sleepy junction in Louisa County until Rt. 64 was opened in the early 1970s.

By the early 2000s plans for a business corridor and Spring Creek began to take shape and many people jumped on board.

The Business Park features the UVA Medical Complex and Martha Jefferson Medical, along with Crossroads Veterinarian Hospital, Spring Creek Dental Office, and Best Western Hotel. Directly across the street is Lowes, Super Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, and an array of retail shops.

Adjoining the Business Park lies the 1,200-unit Master Planned Spring Creek Golf Community which is currently 50% built out. Spring Creek is surrounded by beautiful views, rich history, and places to explore.

Close to History & Natural Beauty

From the homes of presidents – Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland and Montpelier – to fine dining and a resort lake less than an hour away – Lake Anna State Park is a vacation destination for those who enjoy camping, hiking trails, boating, fishing, swimming and much more – Central Virginia offers a wealth of possibilities for visitors and residents alike.

Spring Creek offers convenience, affordability and 24-hour security along with all of the benefits associated with living in a gated community that’s loaded with amenities like a new golf clubhouse with a restaurant – Tavern on the Green.

The Richmond metro area with its job market, shopping and other amenities is easily accessible, and Short Pump is a 35-minute drive to the east.

The golf course regularly receives awards as one of the best public courses both nationally – ranking #55 on Golf Digest’s 10 greatest public courses list for 2015-16 – and in Virginia.

Meticulously groomed and ingeniously laid out, the Spring Creek golf course unfolds over peaceful rolling hills and woods beneath the mountains of Charlottesville. The course offers all golfers a strategic challenge in a peaceful setting. Throughout the course, rock walls and bridges emphasize a theme of simple, old-fashioned elegance and practicality.

Many Options

A big plus for those wanting to live in Spring Creek, but who aren’t yet ready to move, is that they can purchase a lot and hold it until they are ready to start building. Buyers can choose from Ryan Homes, Stanley Martin Homes or Colony Builders – all have model homes in the subdivision. Or they can choose from among the many quality builders in the area, many of who have built homes in Spring Creek and are familiar with all of the requirements.

The majority of homes are between $300,000 and $400,000, with the most expensive new homes selling for just under $600,000.

One focus for community activities is the clubhouse that opened in 2015 and features a golf club, pool, fitness center and an event center for weddings, banquets and corporate functions. Tennis and basketball courts are available nearby.

The clubhouse also features Tavern on the Green, a restaurant open to the public that is on the lower level of the state-of-the-art, 17,667 sq. ft  clubhouse with a view of the lake and the 18th green. The bright, airy and inviting restaurant seats 144 guests and includes a full-service bar with WIFI access. The chef is happy to accommodate special dietary preferences such as vegan, gluten-free or kosher (just ask) and is committed to purchasing as many ingredients as possible from local farms

The clubhouse also offers many different kinds of activities designed to increase community involvement and interaction. For example, the children enjoy an afternoon party on Halloween.

In yet another community activity, some of the retirees recently created a park where they built some picnic tables including smaller tables for kids.

The many amenities and housing styles available at Spring Creek make it a top choice for a wide range of buyers with different budgets, interests and tastes.  While most are move up buyers or downsizers, there are even a few first timers.

Many are new in their careers and want a neighborhood with amenities like the playground, tennis and basketball courts and walking trails. Most commute into either Richmond or Charlottesville for work.

Area Amenities

Louisa County has some top rated schools, two of which, the high school and Thomas Jefferson Elementary, were rebuilt after they were damaged by the 2011 earthquake. The new high school has received a Bronze Award based on student achievement, putting it in the top 25 percent of high schools in the country.

Many Spring Creek families are move up buyers with children that want to get settled in a new home prior to the start of the school year. Residents also enjoy lower home prices than are available closer in and significant savings in property taxes compared to either Albemarle or Charlottesville.

Spring Creek also is popular with retirement-aged buyers who come from all over, although a large number come from Northern Virginia. Often they are returning to an area they fell in love with when they were students at UVA.

Many of those moving into Spring Creek are people who have enjoyed living in large homes in nearby communities such as Glenmore or Lake Monticello. Often these individuals want a smaller house, but still want to enjoy all of the amenities that come with a gated community on a golf course.

At Spring Creek they can build a brand new one-level home customized to meet their age and health related needs with universal design features that allow them to stay independent for as long as possible.

Part of the appeal of Spring Creek is that it is near the amenities of town, but still retains a more rural character in spite of a rapidly growing commercial sector that includes a variety of restaurants and medical care options from both Martha Jefferson and UVA.
